A shade tolerant, late summer-fall blooming aster with distinctive large basal leaves! Excellent and oft used to fill in empty understory as it forms colonies by rhizome. Flowers are large, but have narrow petals. Like other asters, its flowers support a variety of pollinators and its foliage supports many insects, making it valuable for wildlife support.

Notable Wildlife Interactions: Flowers attract a variety of butterflies, bees, wasps, flies, beetles, and plant bugs. Like other asters, it hosts many insects including the silvery checkerspot and pearl crescent butterflies, 30+ species of moth including the Isabella tiger moth, and multiple, leafhoppers, treehoppers, and smaller insects. Commonly browsed by mammals, as well as ruffled grouse and turkey.
