A hardy sunflower that will take part shade! Like other sunflowers, it supports a wide array of insects and will spread by rhizome to form colonies. Hosts the painted lady butterfly!

Notable Wildlife Interactions: Flowers attract a variety of insects such as bees (including multiple sunflower specialists), wasps, flies, butterflies, skippers, and beetles. Hosts the painted lady butterfly, the silvery and checkerspot skippers, moths, leafhoppers, treehoppers, plants bugs, beetles, weevils, and smaller insects. Seeds are eaten by seed eating birds such as mourning doves, bobwhite, goldfinches, and sparrows, and mammals such as chipmunks, grey squirrels, mice, and voles. Commonly browsed by mammals. Colonies of the plant provide good cover for wildlife.
