An aster perfect for adding blooms to woodlands or shady forest edges! Flowers are large for an understory plant, but smaller than showier asters such as New England Aster. Can form colonies from rhizomes, but is slow in doing so.

Notable Wildlife Interactions: Flowers attract bees, butterflies, skippers, and flies. Hosts the silvery checkerspot and pearl crescent butterflies, moths including the asteroid and aster borer, and many smaller insects. Turkey and grouse may eat the seeds, and foliage is commonly browsed by rabbit and deer.
