A shorter sunflower with the bright yellow blooms signature to the family! One of the least competitive of the sunflowers, it may be outcompeted in fertile soils. Hosts the painted lady butterfly!

Notable Wildlife Interactions: Flowers attract bees, flies, and butterflies. Hosts the silvery checkerspot and painted lady butterflies, the moth such as the sunflower borer moth, a few grasshoppers and leafhoppers, and some smaller insects. Seeds are a valuable food for many birds and small mammals. Occasionally browsed by deer.
