This Species is typically available during our Spring Public Sale May-June at Geist Nursery in Fishers, IN.

A.k.a. nodding bulrush. A comparatively adaptable rush that will tolerate mesic conditions, recognizable by its flat, grass like leaves and drooping seed heads. Prefers rich soils for water retention, but tolerates rocky soils with sufficient moisture.

Notable Wildlife Interactions: Hosts semi-aquatic leaf beetles, a few moths such as the oblong sedge borer and multicolored sedge borer, and other small insects. Seeds are an important food source for wetland birds such as ducks and rails. Trumpeter swans and Canadian geese feed on the foliage, and muskrats occasionally eat culms and shoots.
