This naturally occurring hybrid between red and black chokeberries (variously called a variety or a hybrid species depending on the source, and usually written Aronia x prunifolia) displays purple berries and bright red fall foliage! Berries are edible, though astringent. Shrubs tend to sucker, and can be grown for a hedge or visual barrier. Though a hybrid species, it purportedly breeds true and can be propagated by seed.
