Spring Plant

This Species is typically available during our Spring Public Sale May-June at Geist Nursery in Fishers, IN.

A.k.a. bergamot or beebalm. A lovely, easily grown monarda that attracts equally flashy pollinators including skippers, butterflies, hummingbird moths, and hummingbirds! Generally adaptable, but prefers well-drained soils. Foliage is fragrant when crushed. Its herb-y taste means it is rarely browsed by mammals.

Light: Full Sun, Part Sun/Shade

Soil Moisture: Wet Mesic, Mesic, Dry Mesic, Dry

Soil Type: Adaptable

Height: 2'-4'

Bloom Color: Lavender

Bloom Time: Jul-Aug

Root Type: Rhizome

Notable Wildlife Interactions: Supports mainly long tongued pollinators such as long-tongued bees, bee flies, butterflies, skippers, and hummingbird moths, as well as hummingbirds. Hosts the hermit sphinx and grey marvel moths. A mild herby taste makes foliage unpalatable to browsers.
