Notable Wildlife Interactions: Hosts several hairstreak butterflies and duskywing skippers, dozens of moths including the cecropia, leafhoppers, treehoppers, and beetles. Nuts are eaten by many animals including turkey, nuthatches, woodpeckers, deer, and raccoon. A spiny soft shell turtle has been observed eating the acorns.

Notes: Tolerates seasonal flooding well. Trees take 20-30 years to produce nuts, and may live 300+ years. Occasionally hybridizes with bur oak and basket oak. Acorns are not a terribly popular food, but are edible after processing and white oak acorns, naturally low in tannins, are the easiest to process. Very similar to white oak except, you guessed it, swamp white oaks likes wetter soils!
