An adaptable, distinctive legume that hosts a variety of moths, skippers, and the eastern tailed blue butterfly! A beneficial addition to any dry prairie but desirable to browsers, so plants should be protected while they establish. Otherwise easy to grow in well drained areas, and drought tolerant. May reseed in optimal conditions, but plants are unbranched and generally do not crowd other species out.

Notable Wildlife Interactions: Flowers attract bees and butterflies. Seeds are eaten by gamebirds such as mourning doves, bobwhite, and turkey, and the slate colored junco in the winter. Foliage is desirable to a wide variety of mammals.
