This is the wild type of the oft cultivated honey locust, meaning it will have a thorny trunk! An attractive large tree with small leaves that casts bright shade and is fairly fast growing and adaptable. These traits make them particularly useful as a host for native vines, and as a canopy tree for shade gardens. While often overlooked due to being frequently planted, mature trees lose their thorns once they reach a large diameter and make for a stunning climax species. Tolerates seasonal flooding and short droughts.
