A.k.a. bloody butcher. An familliar, adaptable spring ephemeral! Fairly easy to grow, but slow to establish colonies. Prefers understory areas where it will have sun in the spring, and shade after trees leaf out.

Notable Wildlife Interactions: Flowers rarely attract beetles and flies. Hosts the black-patched clepsis and American angle shades moths. Seeds are distributed by ants, who feed on their lipid rich coating. Commonly browsed by mammals, particularly deer.
Notes: Because of their short spring growing period, prairie trillium are often slow to establish and may take ten years to bloom in the wild!
