A.k.a hairy waterleaf or large-leaf waterleaf. A charismatic spring flower of the Midwestern woods, its mottled cool-season leaves and slow rhizomatous spread make it a spring star in shade gardens! Prefers bright understory under deciduous trees and woodland soil rich in organic matter. Often occurs in lowlands in the wild. Foliages tends to die back in the summer and sprout again in late winter-early spring.
