A magnolia with distinctive large flowers and large leaves arranged in clumps. A showy and unique addition to the right spot! Prefers loamy, mildly acidic soil and part sun/shade, but tolerates full sun if soil remains moist. Intolerant of flooding or drought, best grown in areas sheltered from the wind. Plants with few or one trunk tend to grow taller than those with more stems.

Notes: Flowers are often fragrant. Whether the fragrance is pleasant or not seems to be up for debate. Branches contain ethyl acetate, which allows them to resist several species of nematode.
