A.k.a. Vibernum trilobum and Viburnum opulus var. trilobum. A lovely and robust viburnum with an upright habit and bright red summer berries beloved by birds! Blooms/berries/foliage are more dense with more sun exposure, but bright shade is well tolerated.

There is a great deal of confusion surrounding the genomics of this plant as a North American native as the North American population (V. opulus var. americanum, previously V. trilobum) has recently been lumped into a single species with the nonnative V. opulus. Long story short- the plants we carry are sourced from seed stock collected and identified many years ago, from 3 separate sources in southern Wisconsin and northeast Illinois genetically confirmed to be from the North American population. We are as confident as is currently possible that these represent the North American genome of this species. Hybridization with nearby non-native European V. opulus will be extremely likely.
