A healthy tree that is fairly fast growing when young! Female produce large, moderately showy seedpods, and mature trees provide bright shade that makes for prime understory plantings.
Pollination: Male and female needed. Our trees are too young to be sexed.

Notable Wildlife Interactions: Flowers attract bumblebees, large butterflies, and hummingbirds. Hosts the honey locust and bisected honey locust moths.
Notes: Most trees have either male or female flowers, but some have both. Has a slowly suckering habit so tends to grow in colonies in the wild. Seeds were once ground and roasted to produce a ‘coffee-like’ drink, hence the common name.
