A star member of the milkweed family with a short stature and lovely orange blooms that attract a variety of pollinators! Does not tolerate wet soil, and is commonly overwatered in gardens. Prefers poor soils and neglect, and a long taproot makes it drought resistant when established. Hosts monarch butterflies!

Notable Wildlife Interactions: Flowers attract a wide variety of pollinators including bees, wasps, butterflies, and hummingbirds. Hosts insects such as milkweed bugs and beetles, the monarch butterfly, and the unexpected cycnia moth. Despite its lack of the chemicals common in other milkweeds, it is rarely browsed by mammals.
