A.k.a. hearts-a-burstin' with love, bursting heart, and wahoo (as is its cousin, Euonymus atropurpureus- eastern wahoo- see below).  Prefers moist, rich soils in part sun/shade. Tolerates full shade, but has minimal flowers and fruit. Suckering, vulnerable to deer browsing.

Pollination: Likely self pollinating.

Light: Part Sun/Shade, Shade

Soil Moisture: Wet Mesic, Mesic, Dry Mesic

Soil Type: Adaptable

Height: 4’-6’

Width: 4’-6’

Bloom Color: Yellow, White

Bloom Time: May-Jun

Fruit: Bristly pink or red seed post split in fall to show orange seeds.

Fall Color: Red

Root Type: Rhizome

Notable Wildlife Interactions: Like other wahoo, flowers attract flies and occasionally small bees. Hosts a few moths and smaller insects. Commonly browsed by mammals.

Notes: Closely related to eastern (American) wahoo, and often referred to with the same common names. Main visual differences are that strawberry bush has yellow/white flowers instead of red, that seed pods are spiky instead of smooth, and that seedpods are often a bright red or pink instead of a dull red or pink. Tends to be smaller than eastern wahoo.
