This standup grass is often planted for winter interest, as its tall seed stalks that remain upright longer into the winter than big bluestem. The attractive sprays of seeds darken to gold once dry. A once dominant prairie species perfect for adding variety to tallgrass plantings. Spreads well from seed, so care should be take in manicured plantings.
